"Plan, Do, and Relax"

Time waits for no one. It was about a month ago when Covid-19, aka the Coronavirus, began causing widespread concerns, so much so that schools and businesses started closing. People began washing their hands for 20 seconds, buying hand sanitizers, and toilet paper in bulk. The crisis started slowly. It was early in the second week of March that I began hearing that some schools were planning to talk about closing down for a month or so. I went through that week as if all was normal, but it was not. My school district had mentioned they would meet on March 15th to discuss whether or not they would shut down. Things changed swiftly when the district announced that they would close indefinitely on the 13th. Many businesses and municipalities followed suit.

Life has changed drastically - it went from crowds, groups to small gatherings and for some, isolation. Life has also gone from handshakes and hugs to social isolation and trying to access gloves and masks. But, you know what? We are survivors. That's just who we are. For the first couple of weeks, I was just in shock. But, despite my shock and anxiety over the uncertainty of it all, I knew I had to cope with the situation. I could no longer waste my time lamenting the past, and crying over the present. First, I had to plan. Plans can be simple or complicated. I had to plan what I would do during the week, the month, and the year (considering if the virus has a vaccine or does not). The second step was to put the plan into action. Words and setting goals are great, but do not mean much with some action. Once you complete an action, any action, give yourself a reward or some acknowledgement of your accomplishment. The last step is to take time to relax and meditate on peaceful thoughts. Turn off the television, sit back, relax, and be mindful of the calmness (hopefully) around you. Plan. Do. Relax.
